Q: What is the Kittanning Firemen's Band?
A: We are an amateur community band, sponsored by Kittanning Hose Companies Nos. 1, 4 & 6, rehearsing and performing parades and concerts during the summer months.
Q: Where does the KFB perform?
A: Approximately two-thirds of our performances are within Armstrong County. Some performances are annual events, while others are rotated. We make every effort to keep the parade schedule interesting, with different events every year.
Q: Who is eligible to join the KFB?
A: The Kittaning Firemen's Band is made up of men, ages fifteen and up.
Q: Do I have to live in Kittanning to be a member?
A: No. We are made up of members from all over Armstrong, Butler, Indiana, Westmoreland, and Allegheny Counties. We are a county-wide organization, and even though we represent specifically Kittanning Hose Companies Nos. 1, 4 & 6, we also represent firefighters everywhere, and certainly, all the communities in Armstrong County.
Q: Do I have to be a fireman to be a member?
A: No. In fact, only a very small percentage of band members are firemen.
Q: Must I play an instrument to join the band?
A: Absolutely not. Nor do you need marching experience. We pride ourselves on being able to teach new members how to march. And if you do not play an instrument, we suggest the Color Guard.
Q: What is the Color Guard?
A: The Color Guard marches in front of the band, carrying flags, rifles, and our banner.
Q: What if I am physically unable to march in parades?
A: While it is of course preferable to have every member participate in every event, we do encourage people who cannot march to play with us in concerts.
Q: Are there any fees or dues to be a member?
A: Absolutely not. The KFB only asks that you buy your "khaki's," and sometimes, your black shoes.
Q: "Khaki's?" What are those?
A: This word refers to the khaki work pants and shirt that are worn as a uniform by the band.
